A beginning’s ending…

Summer of Lincoln 2.0 is almost over. The end is close. Of summer, that is. The end of summer just means the beginning of fall, and that’s one of my favorite seasons. If I’m being honest, every time I get to experience anything new, I’m going to celebrate. There were some who predicted I wouldn’t be around to see last autumn, let alone this one.

I’ve been busy making memories…swimming, boating, running, playing and generally making everyone smile and want to rub my belly. My Mom says that memories are the currency of the mind; that there’s nothing at all more valuable. Some day, maybe even soon, only memory will prove that I lived. I want to make sure the proof not only memorializes me, but also brings joy to the one remembering. Since I can’t talk, that’s the best way to show everyone how much I love them. I want people to laugh out loud when they think of me!

So, I’m getting my last few warm swims in. My Dad swam with me today. He races me to the ball, but he lets me win every single time. That’s okay, though. I know he does it because he loves me so much and he wants to spend some extra time together.

Plus, we’re a little overrun with girls around here since my Mom brought home a new “foster” dog. Ha! Good one, Mom. If it’s a foster dog, you have to give it back at some point, and I DO NOT see that happening.  Even my Dad said, “Foster dog…that old gag”. It’s like my Mom doesn’t know we’re on to her, or something. It’s all good though. Jasmine is pretty funny and she likes to play. I’m smart enough to realize that I can’t begrudge her place in our house, since that was me eight years ago. If my Mom wasn’t a rescuer, I wouldn’t be here either.

Here’s a video of Jasmine if you want to see my new “foster” sister.

I’m trying to keep this one short. I just wanted to let everyone know that I’m doing great and that I look forward to tomorrow every single day. I’m not going to waste a single second since I have to be out there making happy memories for everyone.

My Mom says I’ve made her rich already. She says she’s got a full savings account of mind currency thanks to me, but I’m not taking any chances. No wasted time here.

Is not to die.

Lincoln is a huge golden who has had one brain surgery, two ACL surgeries, and one rear leg amputation. Yikes.

  1. Lincoln,
You always make me smile, but it seems tinged with a little sadness today… maybe because Summer is ending (although it is supposed to be 97 here tomorrow!).
Your new sis, I mean foster sis (wink, wink) looks like Gayle’s long lost sister- its the ears I think. And she must be really valuable- she is attached to a big chain so no one steals her!! Of course I’m a little partial to the black pups!

  2. Lincoln, I so look forward to your updates and I am so happy to hear you are busy making great memories. But I have a feeling your family will have you around for a long, long time. In fact, I predicted last year that you would have more than one Summer of Lincoln. Keep on making everybody happy and getting those great belly rubs, my friend.

  3. This post was a little sad, we are just finishing the Summer of Tate 1.0 and that is a little sad. But Tate perks up so much in cool weather, it’s hard to not be happy about that! I hope Lincoln likes cool weather too!

I love the picture of Dad and Lincoln. And I really love the quote. Thanks, I know I’ll need this in the future.

  7. Lincoln, your mom is profound, very profound. I love the musings on memories! I asked about jasmine when they were looking for an emergency foster for her, we are super glad that she found her way into your home. There isn’t a better place in this world for her. Mom says if something happens to her and dad, I am going to your house. I don’t wish for anything bad to happen but it would be the best to have Lincoln as my brother and not just my bff.
Please have your mom and dad give you a hug for me. Still waiting on dad to leave before we can plan our next event together. Maybe in November at the Puppy up?

  8. Lincoln,
I always look forward to your blog updates. You look just like my Chili Dawg, so looking at you makes me smile and remember him- we even selected a picture of you out of the KillBarney box when he visited us. Your sister Jasmine is pretty too, and I bet she won’t be leaving any time soon either.

  9. Aw, Lincoln, we’re happy you’re doing so well. You’re not just a handsome face – you’ve got the heart of a poet.

You keep on helping make those memories, lovely boy. It’s how we hold forever on to all those we love.

And about Jasmine – I’ve gotta feeling, like you and your dad, that ‘fostering’ really means ‘keeping-her.”

  10. Oh Lincoln, blog after blog – even though I know your story almost as well as your mom and dad…and I definitely know the impact you’ve made on the both of them – I end up a big old soggy mess. Your mom would call me a sissy (both figuratively and literally) but in your case, it’s totally warranted…tears and tissue.

You, Quinlay and, now, Jasmine all found doggie wonderland, that’s for sure! Jas couldn’t be further from that big old chain and you have to admit, she’s added a lot of fun and playing (without taking time away from your swimtime!)

  11. Oh, Lincoln, 2.0 is fabulous!!! I love how much you live and love every second of every day. And look good doing it!!! Congrats on the new sister. She’s gotta be thinking she died and went to heaven to be at your house…. 🙂

Hope you can make the Puppy Up walk in November!!! Would be great to see you and your humans…
