Not that I know what that means, but I heard my Mom say that’s why she gets up every morning at the crack of dawn and goes to work. Every now and again, though, we get a long weekend and we beat feet to the cabin. And every now and again, the stars align, and it all comes together and makes for a perfect get away.
Last weekend, it was barrel tasting at the wineries. I don’t actually get to drink the wine, but I always get to hang out at the winery, so it’s pretty cool. Mix that in with a LOT of swimming, a LOT of sunshine, and a LOT of friends, and it just doesn’t get much better. Below you’ll see what I did pretty much all weekend 1) swam, 2) hung out in man camp and tried to get them to give me a Manny’s Pale Ale (no dice…evidently dogs don’t get beer even when they are super hot and super tired), and 3) supervised the other dogs while they played.
So, this is pretty much how it went all weekend. Swimming, sleeping, and supervising. These are the days we all wait for, humans and canines alike. These bright and beautiful days are the ones that make us forget about the dark times. These are the moments which dim the memory of the tears and the trauma, the surgeries and the sutures, and the days when the future looked bleak. These are the days for which we all live. It sort of reminds me of this saying my Mom told me once, “Who will tell whether one happy moment of love or the joy of breathing or walking on a bright morning and smelling the fresh air, is not worth all the suffering and effort which life implies.” ~Erich Fromm
Who could ever know if that one, tiny, moment in time is why we’re here? I’m just going to make sure that when my moment comes, I’m ready for it. Over and over and over.
Wow. No wine and no ale. Tough crowd, Lincoln, but it sounds like you had a splendid weekend anyways.
Way to capture those moments; they can be as elusive and evanescent as those bubbles my kids blow into the sky with soap and plastic wands. Thank you.
Lincoln,
You are soooo handsome and such a good supervisor! No beer? None? Not even a lick? Your pawrents need a talkin’ too.
Schwimmmmmmmmming! You look handsomest when your fur is wet and you are by your lake. Keep it up Lincoln. You are my hero!

Barrel tasting at the wineries? A golden after my own heart (even if you didn’t get to taste the wine :). It certainly sounds like the stars were in alignment and you had the perfect getaway. Love your pictures at the lake. And the one with your friends jumping in mid-air? Now that’s pretty cool!
Tell your mom I like the Erick Fromm quote – she always comes up with the best ones. I swear she must be some kind of philosopher….
Enjoy your lake Lincoln and your schwimming…..you look pawesome in the water!
Good for you Lincoln! Looks like you and your pawrents had a great weekend!!! Live in the moment, dude!!! 🙂
Maggie
wow, sounds like you had the best of times!! way to capture the moment and really get what’s important (except for the beer..bummer). this swimming thing looks like it’s really catching on!
“No day like today…”
What’s wrong with a little beer? I mean as long as you aren’t driving-
Karen and the pug girls
This is your time, Lincoln. We’re so glad to see you got to get out and have a blast in the sunshine by the lake. Wow!
What a beautiful blog entry, thank you for another great quote.
And would you believe, there really is dog beer! Maybe you should try some!
What, no wine? Bummer… but it looks like you have your very own beer keg!
PS: Has mom read Jerry’s tips for managing blog images? The photo files you’re uploading are huge! 🙂 Even with your Tripawds Supporter subscription, such big files will take up unnecessary space and take longer to load.
Hey Lincoln,
Another excellent blog. I don’t know what it is, but I always end up with a tear in my eye as I read them.
Tonight Morgan was “inducted” into the National Honor Society at her High School. The speaker was pretty goofy, but he had some great things to say. One was perfect for Morgan right now – “It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but even more to stand up to your friends.” ~ JK Rowling. I know, I know, not quite as, ummm, classical as your mom’s quotes, but true, nonetheless.
Then Harley and I went on our second walk/run (as I like to call it, since I’m not a runner like your mom) although it wasn’t as calming as Sunday. I wish that you could to talk some sense into Harley…you know, just let him know he can relax and enjoy the time instead of always being on alert. Maybe next time you and your mom come visit you could make that point?
Was hoping maybe I’d see you on Memorial Day …. didn’t know if you were having a lake weekend or not but now I don’t think it’ll work for me to get up there anyway! Make sure you save me a Manny’s and let your mom know I miss you all. Even the new dog. 🙂
That is one beautiful blog, Lincoln. And you standing by the lake – you could be a poster dog !! Looks like maybe your friend had a few too many beers 😉 good thing you were there to supervise.
Sounds like you have a pretty sweet deal going with the working for the weekends life. Can’t wait to read about your next adventure.
We LOVE that picture of you standing by the lake, Lincoln! What a great start to the summer of Lincoln!! We’re so glad you got some great swimming in – what a way to spend your weekend. Keep it up!
Hugs,
Holly and Holly’s mom
Awww, Lincoln – not even one drop of Pale Ale? Too bad. Oh well. Looks to me like you had one GREAT weekend. Sometimes, you just need to kick back, go schwimming, supervise other dogs, hanging out in man camp and enjoy yourself. These are truly the moments that are way too few and far between. But, in the end, they are the only moments that matter. I just wish I was there to enjoy it with you 🙂
Sounds like you had an awesome weekend Lincoln! Whose that flying dog in the picture? Looks like he may have been dipping into some beer or wine… 🙂
