Just when I thought it was all over (The Summer of Lincoln, I mean), here we are, back at the cabin doing everything I love best. Add sunshine as the cherry on top, and you can imagine the weekend we had.
I swam. I rested. I swam. I rested. I chased the ball. I swam. I rested. I chased the ball. I swam. I guess, mainly, I was just me; which was nice. I think it’s nice that nobody really seems to care that I only have three legs. Everyone knows that I’m the same ole’ dog. By the way, Fortis, if you look real close at the rocks, you can see they are covered in goose poo. You’ll be proud to know that I did indeed live up to my nickname (The Big Stink), and I got a real good roll in, just like you and that dead fish. You’da been real proud!!
My Mom, as always, took lots of pictures. One time I jumped in the water just like I used to, before I only had three legs. My Mom cut my head off as she was taking the picture, but she said I took her by surprise, because who knew I was going to act like one of the Flying Wallendas. I caught some serious air on that one. Serious. Air.
At the end of the day, we built a fire and ate dinner outside (this is after we all went to the winery of course). I have a feeling that this may be the last weekend of warm and sunny swimming, but that doesn’t really matter to me. I swim in all seasons. Except winter…the lake freezes over then, and according to my Mom, it’s dangerous to go out on it. Until then, though, this really is my kingdom. Plus, for me, it’s all about attitude. It’s like this saying my Mom told me once, “There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart. Celia Thaxter.”
I think we are all grateful for a lot of things. My Mom and Dad are grateful that I seem to be healthy. We’re all grateful that Kirby is hanging in there and is actually acting pretty saucy, if I dare to say it. She’s eating her cheeseburgers all the time, and even some kibble every now and then. We feel blessed that we have the lake house to come to. My Mom says she doesn’t know what she would do without some time to re-charge her batteries, and sitting by the water, drinking coffee is the best way ever to do that (as long as I’m with her, obviously). I’m grateful they let me swim whenever I want. I guess we all just feel lucky to have each other. It’s pretty simple, really.
Plus, did I mention the swimming?
“To know you have enough, is to be rich” Tao Te Ching.
I guess this means we’re rich, because we have each other, and that’s enough for us.
Encore indeed! And well said, you always have the most inspawrational quotes to share.
Beautiful photos! And so well resized too! 😉
Beautiful photos!! And what a great dive Lincoln! Superhero at his best. I’m so glad you got to spend another weekend at the lakehouse with your family. Sounds just awesome and also awesome to hear that Kirby’s loving those cheeseburgers too.
It’s 105+ (109 last time I checked) degrees where we live this past weekend and we’ve been spending our time in the pool – Mackenzie of course taking full advantage. I always find the end of summer to be bittersweet but I shall now remind myself that there is eternal summer in my grateful heart. 🙂 Thank your mom for those very inspiring quotes and also let her know that she’s a great photographer too!
I always feel a special joy in seeing how well and happy Lincoln is – having read about his trials and tribulations the last few years. I am glad he has had such a wonderful summer and, because of his very warm and wise family, will continue to do so.
Woo Hoo Lincoln. You keep that summer going as long as possible. My daddy says his favorite time of year is “Indian” summer. Not sure what that means. Do Indians really have different seasons than us? Anyway, you are doing great, and I’m glad to see you jumping and swimming. Keep it up until the ice freezes over.
lincoln, you are inspiring!!! gratitude, such a simple concept – thanks for helping us ‘get it’. we’re just now loosing our summer here in east tennessee..indian summer may escape us this year. looking forward to the changing leaves and cool nights of autumn…something else to be grateful for. thanks for sharing your wonderful life and family!

Oh, Lincoln, you have no idea how much I needed to read something so inspiring and full of such eloquent gratitude. Your mom took absolutely stunning pictures. Of course, the subject is simply stunning to begin with 🙂
Keep on swimming, Lincoln. Big hugs and smooches to you and Kirby.
Hi Lincoln,
You are so wise! I love all your quotes. You even quoted Aristotle once!!! You are one lucky dog to have a dock and a lake to swim in, and such wonderful parents to take such good care of you.
Sometimes my Mom gets a tear in her eye when she reads your blogs and has to wipe it away. She says that you are an amazing dog, the way you keep conquering all the things that have come your way.

Hey Lincoln,
Man, I’ve never rolled in goose poo before. Is is good and stinky? I get to roll in all kinds of gooey stuff down at the river…..pigeon poo, dead fish and occasionally I get lucky and even find a rotten crayfish. Hey, If you ever come to Austin, I bet my Dad would take us to the Congress bridge. There is a huge and somewhat famous bat colony that lives there. Oh Lincoln, we could roll to our hearts’ content and there is nothing as stinky as a good old pile of bat guano!
Your mom sure takes beautiful photos. You look so strong and healthy jumping into that lake. I’m impressed!
What a glorious summer Lincoln. Such beauty and love can only be felt by a grateful heart. Your summer shall never end. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Hi Lincoln and Rhonda,
It was wonderful meeting you today. I loved watching Lincoln lean up against his Mom or Dad. What a loving dog. And the poodles weren’t afraid of him at all. It was great to watch Lincoln chase his ball. Way to go, Lincoln!
We love the wine and cookies. James is already eating is cookies and I am saving the wine for tomorrow, Monday Oct. 4. That is James’ 2-month ampuversary and we have a lot of celebrating to do.
Sometime you will have to tell me how to post photos. When I posted them the first time, they were big and clear, but only the left side of each photo showed up. So then I deleted all the photos and reinserted them in “medium” size. They are not as clear now, but still show the spirit of the day. I love the photo of you surrounded by Lincoln and Sammy!!!
Thanks again for all the treats…human and canine. It was so thoughtful of you.

Hi Lincoln. You are a great writer. I’ve been catching up on your blog, and it is beautifull. I can’t belive you had brain surgery! That is wild. The weather in Portland has been very nice, too. Yesterday Indi and I got to lie in the sun at the park for an hour, and we sure don’t take that for granted.
Thanks for reading our blog Indi. I know sometimes we can be long winded, but it’s hard to abbreviate love, and we have a lot of that. I sure hope we can meet up with you in Portland next month. We’re looking forward to it. It’s sunny again today, so maybe we can hope for that at the tripawd party too!
